Erkurt came to Vienna with her parents from Bosnia at the time of the war. She studied German, psychology and philosophy and started working as a journalist on the side. For a year, she worked as a teacher, before she published her book „Generation Haram: Warum Schule lernen muss, allen eine Stimme zu geben“. She has received a number of awards and is a frequent guest in various Austrian media outlets.
